Getting it Together with Peter Walsh

Getting ready for O You 2011 in Atlanta and feeling the effects.  Feeling “pillow proud” and on our way to house proud from Nate. Feeling body connected as Bob Greene’s advice still whispers in my ear.  Feeling a little more focused and directed to get out of my way from Martha Beck.  Now…it’s Peter’s turn. Our Oprah OYou Boot Camp has entered into the week of organizational expert, Peter Walsh…and I have a feeling it’s going to be more than just cleaning out a closet.

Inspired by his visits to the Oprah Winfrey Show, I have on more than one occassion tackled a ‘decluttering’ and organizing task.  Here’s my problem…it doesn’t stick.  Yes, I value people more than things.  Yes, I deserve to live with an organized room/closet/kitchen cabinets…  Yes, everything should have a space.  But…somehow, over time, things seem to wind up in disarray again.  So, what this tells me is that Peter Walsh week is more than just cleaning up and cleaning out…there is some deeper “O” moment that is there that I haven’t gotten to.  I only hope that with this O You Boot Camp and focus this week, that I am able to get closer to it.

Here is the plan as we move through the week and a mini-plan for you if you feel inspired to join in and put yourself to the test.

  • Project:  Clean a closet – My sister and I both agree that we each have closets in our homes that need some attention.  Keeping in mind Peter’s advice to “keep it, donate it, or sell it” we will be moving through the space…and for myself, hopefully finding the floor.
  • Donate and pass on  un-used items to charity.
  • Find out how to make it stick…what does this mean?

For a mini-boot camp challenge try this… pay something forward in these little (but BIG) ways…

  • Join FreeCycle.org in your area.  Get started and pass along items in your house that you just don’t need anymore.
  • Clean out your office or your craft closet and find the extra supplies that are unused and call one of your local schools.  I’m sure that there are teachers everywhere that are looking for their OWN angels…maybe you could be someones angel this week!
