Gayle King Show

Tuesday on the Gayle King Show – February 08, 2011

Gayle is in love….with purple and Justin Bieber.  Is this wrong?  It feels a little wrong, Gayle… and a little funny.  You definitely have Bieber FEVER.  Someone, take her temperature and give her a Tylenol!

  • About the Superbowl…a little more. Ok, the NFL knew a week ago that there were problems….and they were trying to fix it…but they didn’t.  So, the NFL is giving them 3x the amount of the ticket plus tickets to next years game.  I wonder if they are good seats….and if it includes hotel…airfair…party food…mini-bar access…what else?  Let’s make it an awesome deal NFL.  Let’s give them the experience to wipe out this one.  That would be great..
  • About Carlina White, the woman who was kidnapped from the hospital so many years ago – Joy White, the biological mom, did an interview this morning says that when they first met, everything was great.  After 4 days since the reunion….she went back to Georgia.  That is the family she knows…and Joy tearfully said she really wants to get to know her.  And of course….there is a money issue.  The hospital paid the parents $750k…$500k to be put aside for Carlina if she was ever found….to give to her when she turned 21.  Well…Carlina is 23 and the money has been used.  I get it…and so silly…and so sad.  Don’t let money turn this into something sad….
  • About Consumer Reports and Doctors – I wish I had seen the Barbara Walter’s heart special… but Gayle now thinks that she has blocked and clogged arteries.  Doctor’s #1 complaint about patients is that we do not follow their advice.  Patients #1 complaint…is that we have to wait too long for an appointment.  Get 1 doctor…and try to stick with that doctor.  I have a great doctor…but I’m overdue for an appointment.
  • About Glee and Chris Colfer – OMG, Chris Colfer is joining Gayle today!  Yeah.  I am a gleek…after just watching once.  It’s an awesome show!  This is something to have FEVER about.  Gayle…watch.  You’ll be a GLEEK in no time!  His Golden Globe speech was great….how he talked to the kids about being bullied and told that they could not be anything.  I was so proud of him….and not in a “mommy hug” way, but in a “that you could take a moment and make it so not about you…and to speak directly to your viewers and to the kids that are watching….” I thought that was fantastic.  I’m going to cry.  I’m just so proud.  I wanna go get happy and watch GLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
  • About Manners – Gayle made her kids take etiquette class when they were 12-13.   I wonder if there’s a webinar or free web class on that.  Maybe I could sneak it in as homework on my nephew….or a family member or two.  Oh, and the courteous robber….is still a robber.  He had a gun and it was pointed at the clerk.  A thief is a thief.  Never a good profession to get into.
  • About Russell Simmons and his new book. Super Rich: A Guide to Having it All – What really matters?  He’s done yoga for 20 years…I want to start doing yoga.  I need that balance that everyone says that you get from yoga.  Anyway, so Russell took some time to figure out how to explain it.  “Super rich means needing nothing,” says Simmons.  “Richness is from the inside, despite what people will sell you.  Richness starts from the inside.”  “Focus on the work…less on the results and focus on what you love…even if you don’t make money at it.”  I think I am amidst ‘getting rich’ right now in my life.  Gayle brings up a good point….it’s easy to be rich when you’re not money poor…but Russell is trying to remind us that “money doesn’t make you happy….but happy will make you money.”  He is right on…I know many people who have little…but are the happiest people.  Money might make me less stressed about my bills, but would it bring on more stress?  I don’t know…but I get what he’s saying….and during my next Border’s café visit, I’ll pick up the book and see what I think.  Gayle says she thinks it can be “life changing.”  I’m all for changing….it means you are still moving forward….in some direction.  I need to find that yoga DVD too….Namaste

Gayle’s thoughtful question today:

Becoming super rich has nothing at all to do with money.  Think about it.  What makes you rich?

What I know:

What does Namaste mean? -“The gesture Namaste represents the belief that there is a Divine spark within each of us that is located in the heart chakra. The gesture is an acknowledgment of the soul in one by the soul in another. “Nama” means bow, “as” means I, and “te” means you. Therefore, Namaste literally means “bow me you” or “I bow to you.” (Aadil Palkhivala)
