Gayle King Show

Thursday on the Gayle King Show – January 27, 2011

A Hot COLD Mess in NYC.  It’s hard to relate when I am sitting in sunny Florida…but I feel for you people.  I’m sending sunshine thoughts your way Gayle!  This morning, Gayle shared her late night plans and how she made it out to Alicia Keys 30th birthday.  I have 2 reflections on this. First, WHAT!  Alicia Keys is 30?  Nothing like waking up and instantly feeling OLD.  And second, Gayle mentioned how she went to the bday party in Egyptian attire, since that was the “dress” for the party.  PLEASE…next time, post a picture of yourself!  Now, I have to go and look for it on Perez or some other website.  Just show us here!  Let’s cut out the middleman.  Show me on your show! (maybe I’ll find it and post it here…so the look can be over for my readers).

A hot story for this morning is the mom, Kelly Morgan, who’s gone to jail for her kids to have a better education.  Gayle took calls and discussed how people felt about the situation.  Most were outraged.  There was one call from Tracy who lived in the same area and gave a little bit of a different perspective…  Still, jail is not the answer and I think that our system has a problem…and people just keep turning away and not dealing with it.  This is NOT the first time that someone has gotten creative to get a child an education.  I liked the call from the first Tracy….from the same area…it gave me a different perspective… but really, for Pete’s sake, it’s her DAD’s address.  Does she have to move in with him or sign over her kids?  Because I’m sure she would…I mean we are talking about her kid’s future.  And society, this is handled by putting her in jail and suing her for $30,000?  If she had $30,000, I am sure she would MOVE to a better district.  I had a single mom and my mother moved and sacrificed and did whatever she had to do to make sure that we were in a good school district.  My education was at the top of her list.  Shame on you Ohio…you’d better have your jails get ready. I’m sure that you could fill them up with great moms and dads who are loving parents. Clearly…many people have an opinion but does ANYONE have a fix…or a big table that people could have a meeting around?  Because this was going on when I was in school….and that was over 20+ years ago.

The Take the “other” to lunch segment was interesting and it’s an interesting concept….  Gayle’s guest talks about “Otherizing each other” which happens all the time these days…and how this separates us.  She suggests that the way to move closer to working peacefully together and getting along is to go out to lunch with each other.  Good luck people.  Let me know how that goes.  Gayle goes on to ask how to handle Sarah Palin’s rebuttal to the State of the Union – basically being very unpatriotic and trashing the President of the United States and saying that the speech was full of “WTF moments” – so LOW CLASS and disrespectful.  But kudos to you Gayle for not crawling down to her level and for asking for (and trying to give us) some tips on how to handle “others” like her.  But I’m not sure your guest gave you (or I) what we need to say.  So for now, I’ll turn to SNL as my source and just say, “Really SP?  REALLY?” in a Seth Meyers/Amy Polar sarcastic voice…but of course, in a respectful way.  Then, I’ll add, “Wanna go to lunch SP?”

The interview with Carrie Fischer was open…and out there.  Gayle noted that once you start working out, you have to keep working out.  I think this is MY missing link.  Jenny Craig latest spokesperson…Go Carrie.  Good luck and may the force be with you!

Thanks for the heads up on watching Oprah today with Michelle Obama.  I just LOVE the First Lady.  She’s so classy and well spoken…and has an opinion!  I just LOVE HER!

On to now watch Oprah from today…and on tomorrow’s show…did I hear social media and sex in the same sentence?  OMG Gayle, did you really just say “boinking?”
