Rosie Recap- RuPaul, Sara Blakely & the Commodores on “The Rosie Show”

I about died when Rosie began the show with a story of self-diagnosing herself via Google for a condition that was caused by….the seat warmer in her car that she didn’t realize she had! I totally know what she is talking about. My car has the same thing. I discovered the day I thought my rear was on fire. One of the funniest days ever! Thank God I didn’t end up in the doctor’s office like she did. Too funny.

Rosie’s first guest was inspiring, uber-talented and totally amazing! Not only is he a 6th grade budding costume designer, Ben is a huge fan of RuPaul. Take a listen to his story.

Sharing how he has been teased and bullied, I couldn’t help but feel sad for what the message the younger generation is getting. Not that it was any better when I was a kid…but I would hope that since we know better, we’d do better. Sadly that isn’t always the case. Watching him, it was clear that he was star. Does Disney have a Tim Gunn? Just saying! Fortunately Ben’s parents couldn’t be more supportive. They don’t care he sews or plays with dolls….he is their son and that is all that matters. Of course Rosie couldn’t pass up the opportunity to catch his smile. Here is comes and I needed a Kleenex! Ugh…I am so emotional with OWN.

Once it all began to sink in, RuPaul presented Ben with a gift basket full of Mood fabric and supplies. AWESOME is all I can say. Then he announced that he was sending Ben and his whole family to New York to party with the three finalists from RuPaul’s Drag Race…and see Phantom of the Opera. Yea – Ben was completely stoked! Not only that, Rosie arranged for him to go behind the scenes of Phantom of the Opera to see all the costumes. What a great confirmation for Ben. So much love and so much support. I can’t wait to see him win his first award for costume design. I am sure he will mention Rosie!

RuPaul even hung around to chat it up with Rosie. They started off with a candid conversation about bullying.

He continued on discussing how he still gets shocked when he sees himself in drag. Personally I think he looks great either way! Rosie even admitted she is beginning to enjoy dressing up…what she considers drag and the rest of us consider designer clothes. Honestly I am all about t-shirts and jeans myself. I know…but they are SOOO comfortable. I can’t help it. They both reminded us that it truly doesn’t matter what others think or say about you. Your opinion is all that matters. A great message for us all.

Following RuPaul, Sara Blakely the inventor of Spanx joined the show. I had the privilege of catching her in person at the OYou! conference last October. Her story is amazing! Seriously! To top it off she gave everyone in the audience got some skinny britches and pants. Very cool.

Ending the show, Rosie had the marvelous Commodores perform to “Lady (You Bring Me Up)” and “Brick House”. Thankfully OWN shared the clip. Enjoy and get ready to shake it, shake it down now!
