Rosie Show

Rosie Recap- Marlee Matlin & Patti LaBelle on “The Rosie Show”

Life hasn’t been the same without “The Rosie Show”. It is so great to have her back! Not only was she back with a rested enthusiasm, she brought one of my favorite people along….Marlee Matlin.

For those of you who haven’t caught her show “Switched at Birth”, you MUST! It has become a family favorite in our home. It’s hard to find good family shows and this one is so intelligently and witty. I can’t say enough good things about the show! Most of you can find an episode on demand….so check it out. Now back to Marlee. She is such a doll. As the world’s most famous deaf actress, many of us have followed her remarkable career. I haven’t really seen her on talk shows before and it was great to see that she travels with an interpreter, Jack, who has been with her for 26 years. Before she even settled in her chair, Rosie had to being up the incident on “Celebrity Apprentice” with Dionne Warwick. I don’t watch the show and was dismayed to hear the Dionne was so insensitive to those who are hearing impaired. Referring to those who are deaf as “sad” and then insinuating young children aren’t ready for the diversity of watching those who are deaf. That seemed like the basic flavor of the conversation.

It was disappointing that someone who I am certain has encountered discrimination would do the same. Know this – deaf people aren’t sad. They have the capacity to be smart, funny, complex, thoughtful, capable and brilliant …just like any hearing person. They may not be able to hear (or hear well) but the only limitation is the one you place upon them. She totally needs to watch “Switched at Birth” which starts up again this January on ABC Family. I only wish OWN could steal them!

Rosie and Marlee went on to talk about her police officer husband Kevin, how kids can even text 15,000 times in one month, and we even had a chance to meet Marlee’s brother Mark. He shared a little about how it was growing up with a deaf sibling in the family. It was obvious there was a lot of love in their family.

Like Santa, Patti came with gifts for Rosie and the audience. First she brought out a pair of rockin’ heels with the signature Christian Louboutin soles – of course! Trying to girl it up for Rosie, she changed Rosie’s shoes in her lap right on national television. I am certain Ro was sitting there wondering if her feet smelled.

After learning the art of kicking the shoes off from the best, Patti then announced to the audience that each of them would be receiving products from her Lady Marmalade products including sautés and sauces. Of course the best gift was Patti LaBelle singing a couple of songs for the audience. She was (and is) amazing! As for her new lines, she has bedding and kitchen stuff at Macy’s and a whole line of sautés and sauces. AND they are really reasonably priced. I’m thinking mom is getting the sugar-free Spicy Agave Apricot BBQ Sauce – it’s only $3.99! I know!!! If you would like to get your hands on the product, recipes or some music, you can find it all on her website.
