OWN’s Tributes begin tomorrow at 9pm – Struggling through the September 11th Funk

As the anniversary of September 11th grows closer, the air seems to be getting denser. With each breath I seem to inhale a little of the sadness that is dug up each year at this time. It is hard to not feel the funk when you are constantly surrounded by visual and emotional reminders. For days it has grown and today I literally woke up with 9.11 on my mind.

After the attack I had purchased a shirt to raise funds for the fallen heroes of the NY Fire Department. Today when I woke up, the saying on the back of the shirt was heard as a quiet chant in my head, basically waking me. ”All gave some. Some gave all.”

When talking about it with my loved ones, it seems that everyone is going through a bit of the same….a little depressed and rather quiet. However, we all agree on one thing – we are incredibly grateful for those who continue to risk their lives for us each day.

For many of us, September 11th has become a day for appreciation. Although formed by the unforgettable memories that were etched in each of our minds, this day woke many of us up to our true priorities. For me personally, September 11th has become a day to count my blessings and pray for those who may need them.

Tomorrow I will be watching the tributes that OWN will be airing for 2 hours starting at 9pm EST. The Oprah Winfrey Network will pay tribute to the 10th anniversary of September 11th with two documentaries, “Twins of the Twin Towers” and “From the Ground Up”.

The first film, “The Twins of the Twin Towers” shares untold personal stories of “twins who were left twinless” on September 11th. Apparently there were over 40 twins worldwide that lost their other half. This film explores “the unique connection these brave siblings shared, and the process they’ve endured for dealing with their devastating loss and moving forward with their lives”. This film will be the first to air from 9-10:15pm ET.

Next, “From the Ground Up” tells a story of the widows of five firefighters who were killed on September 11th and their journey to find a way to move forward. “Lifting our spirits, they empower their communities and honor their heroic husbands in the most fitting personal ways they can imagine.” I am certain their story will be both touching and inspiring…and a wonderful tribute. This film will air directly after the first film and end at 11pm ET.

Like so many people around the world, our thoughts are on those, whose lives were lost, deeply impacted, and those who still stand strong today. Let us know how the tribute affects you by joining us on twitter @thedailyOWN or simply by commenting here. Be sure to set your DVRs for tomorrow starting at 9pm ET.
