OWN Scheduling Smeduling

Oprah Winfrey Network …I have one word for you – Again?  Ok, maybe another word – Really?  Last night, OWN aired 3 back to back new episodes of Addicted to Food, ending the season quickly and quietly.  While it started out with a bang, it ended with a bit of a whisper in the dark.  Literally, the show’s finale aired from 1-2am EST on the night of Oprah’s Big Surprise when the world was focused elsewhere.  Not in primetime…maybe they were trying to catch all of the binge eaters up watching late night.

Here are my thoughts on this.  I appreciate OWN’s new programming and testing lots of different waters.  The fresh lessons that Tennie and her staff gave each week and the glimpse into eating disorders taught viewers something new.  While most TV offers mindless escape, this show was thoughtful in raising awareness and giving hope.  I appreciate OWN showing all of the episodes but I’m a bit puzzled by their scheduling decisions still.  It’s not like there is a lot of original programming filling all the slots yet and this is not the first time that abrupt or to borrow a word from Oprah “crazy-ass” scheduling changes have just happened on OWN.   Remember when ENOUGH just disappeared after we were hooked?  Thank GOD it’s back…

It’s like someone is shaking a Magic-8 ball to figure out the schedule at OWN.  It’s either that or they’re asking their OWN Ouija (wee-jee) board.  OPRAH – we can’t get you to OWN fast enough.  Your viewers need a voice and some clear vision from the shows and the schedule.  Right now – all we are getting is some new (and old) Oprah DELIGHT sprinkled amidst other old “filler.”  Please bring your Oprah mood ring right away to OWN.  We need to make sure that any new programming gets to the right place…and that it’s set to a nice shade of blue-green.

  1. I couldn’t believe it when I saw that Addicted to Food was ending so abruptly! I still haven’t seen all of these last episodes because each one makes me think. Therefore, I need time with each episode to really get the lessons shared and learned and then, once digested, move on to the next episode.
This show deals with some serious issues that really take it out of me. I needed that week in between to sort of, recover. If that makes any sense.
I was a little shocked that it was decided that the show needed to be pushed out of the schedule in such a manner. I hope it comes back and gets a better treatment.
