Good news!  Oprah is on the Gayle King Show today!  Can’t wait!  Gayle is up and leaves her house by 6:15am.  So earrrrrrrrrrrly…Gayle, you must drink lots of coffee.  But you look so pretty in your grey dress…Anyway….onto the topics of the day!  And OPRAH is on!!!!

About Libya – Airplane down. Pilots ejected. Pilot found. Pilot found. It all happened so quick this morning…It’s all good.  But now the President and the Congress are a little out of sync.  “Who are the opposition forces that we are supporting?”  Gayle asks.  “What are we getting into?” everyone else is asking.  The President tells us this “specifically focuses on the humanitarian threat from Gadhafi”…and what he is doing to his own people.  The cost of the first day – $100 million dollars….YOW!  But we are told that before the week is up….there will be an extended conversation on what we are doing… For this ‘engagement’ we are told it will be days, not weeks…we will see.  I sure hope so.

About Twitter – Twitter turned 5 and over 200,000 people are using it.  That’s it? I ask….what?  C’mon people…really.  So, Jasmine Ortiz tweeted Gayle about a purple dress that was left in her dad’s cab.  Gayle checked it out and YES, her stylist DID leave a purple dress in the cab.  WOW.  See, Twitter….connecting people with people and people with stuff.  Gayle, I am reaching out to you too!  Say hi sometime….

About Japan and the tragedy – Taylor Anderson, a young teacher in Japan and living her dream….her body was found in Japan and it is very sad. Another teacher, Monte Dickson is still missing….as so many others.

About Tim Pawlenty setting up a committee to explorer a 2012 Presidency – And he’s running his add on Facebook.  Kinda strange…because all of your friends and family and supporters will of course hit the “like” button…so I’m not sure what kind of real response he will get.  From me, I just tilt my head and say, “I think I’ve seen you on The Daily Show but yeah…not ringing a bell…”  And there you go…as Gayle said, there is lots of time between now and the election….like 7 years in political years (political years same as dog years).

About OPRAH – The O Magazine’s first every poetry issue is out and on stands… and Gayle is sure that it will open our hearts and our mind like never before.  It all came about by Maria Shriver and Oprah talking about it one day…and then it came to be.  Maybe Maria will talk to Oprah about the show IDEA that I tweeted to her, “Just one more thing with Maria Shriver” on the OWN Network.

So, Oprah is up early in California and joins us from California in her PJs.  She’s been up since 3am talking to Africa…went back to bed at 5am…and now, she’s up with Gayle…and US!  Poetry can be found throughout the day by “looking at the ordinary and the extraordinary in everyday life,” Oprah tells us.  Your child’s smile.  Being around your dogs.  The sunrise.  Being around the trees.  Taking a walk.  Oprah thinks that this is “the BEST” issue of the magazine.

Maria introduced Oprah to Poet, Mary Oliver.  “What will you do with your wild and precious life?”  is a quote from one of Mary’s poems.  Poetry is part of our everyday life…and this issue will help to inspire you and bring out the poetry in our lives.  NOW I have to pick up my issue.  So many people contributed to this issue…  Poetry can move you… Oprah tells us that she “grew up on poetry.”  “Maya Angelou’s ‘Phenomenal Woman’…I grew up with black poets. I was a person who recited poetry and it was a part of my everyday….” Oprah says.  This issue of the O Magazine introduces people in little bites.

Oprah also shares her journals.  Gayle asked for a page or two…Oprah gave her a goldmine.  “Who is this woman?” Oprah says of the person that she was in those journals.  Now, she journals on her IPad… “I think it’s a great way to keep track of your human process,” she says.  Oprah talks about some of her years as her “3-D” years – when I was delusional, in denial and damaged.  OMG…I had those years too.  It’s so nice to be on the other side.

Gayle reads an excerpt from the magazine journal section….from when Oprah was on the set of “The Color Purple” and Steve, the makeup guy, said when fixing O’s makeup, “Well, we all know big black women sweat.”  Gayle asks Oprah, “What did you say to him?”  “Nothing.  I was getting ready to go into a scene…the one around the table…and I used those feelings there,” Oprah says.

Gayle says, “These journal entries are still the core of you…thank you for sharing so much.”  Gayle…I hope that we get to see more of them in the next issues….hint, hint.

Gayle asks Oprah the question she’s asking her listeners today.  “If you had a choice in what kind of boss you would have, would you pick a boss that was a good person or one that was a good communicator?”  Oprah tells us, “I’d want both.”  Gayle tells her she can’t have both….and Oprah says, “Well, no I want both.  I don’t want them just to be a good person and them not knowing what they are doing and we are always running around in trouble. I want both…I want a boss that is compassionate and also knows what they are doing.”  We love you Oprah….we want YOU as a boss.  Where do we sign up???

About Good Person vs. Good Communicator Boss Choice – Gayle would definitely choose nice.  People have opinions all over the place.  Nice.  Good communicator. Hmm…I think Nice has to win out…but I’m with Oprah.  I really want both.  Oprah, call me.  I will work for nice, good communicating boss.

About Philadelphia – According to GQ Magazine, Philly has the honor of being the worst sports fans.  Not smart or nice when they go to root on their teams.  And University of Virginia is being signaled out too.  Not a list you want to be on.

About Senator Kirsten Gillibrand – She is the senator that took over the seat vacated by Sen. Hillary Clinton….and has been doing a great job.  The bill that she is here talking about is one about teenage driving.  “This bill is about saving lives.  Every single day 11 teenagers die in a driving accident….we need certain restrictions,” the Senator says.  “We don’t want them driving at night…or with a bunch of kids in the car at night.  We really want to create a zero tolerance for distracted driving – texting, being on the phone.  Nobody can drive really well if they are on the phone or trying to write an email.”  So the Senator is proposing a gradated driving system that will give our teens different levels of what they can do at 16, 17, and 18.  Restricted….as they learn to get better.”  Gayle loves it…but the teens may not be happy with that.  Senator Gillibrand talks about the bill being passed and getting support from both sides on the Hill.  She talks about things being broken in D.C. and really, how “we all need to come together to get the work done.”

Gayle points out that only 17% of the members of Congress are female.  “Women bring a different conversation to the table,” the Senator tells us.  It’s just a different lens that we are looking through.   We definitely need to be at the table…and with a bigger percentage than what we have.

We get a little update about Gabby Gifford…and Senator Gillibrand…and the miracle moment of when Gabby opened her eyes.  The Senator is off to see her today…and promises to give Gayle (and US) an update.  We can’t wait to hear….

About Guests this week – Mark Cuban, Soledad O’Brien, Taboo…stay tuned…

About the Premier of Dancing with the Stars – Gayle is pulling for Kirstie….”She’s got moves!”  If you missed it (like I did), they will repeat it on Saturday….so set your Tivos…

Have a great day Gayle…and everyone else reading!  See you tomorrow for another recap….and a little more dishin on the shows.
