Don't Tell the Bride

“Don’t Tell the Bride” – Joe & Paola – Iraq War Vet plans his Dream Wedding

Excited about planning the wedding of his wife’s dreams, Joe set out to do his best. Picking his good friend and groomsman, Jorge, to help him out, they set out to plan…starting with the bachelor party! As a vet of the Iraq War, he knew it was important to plan, plan, plan. Feeling a little overwhelmed by the lists, he headed straight to get a tattoo. The first $200 was spent on a TATTOO!!! I am starting to get nervous.

Feeling empowered the next decision came far too easily. The catering will simply roll up to the reception. The choice…a food truck. Now after seeing “The Great Food Truck Race”, I know it is possible for those little trucks to pull off gourmet food BUT really? As Paola showed her friend her perfect location overlooking the ocean, Joe’s venue had a slightly different view -the county jail. Although Paola isn’t a fan of hotels, he took a risk by choosing the hotel without the prison view.

Finally things were getting done. It was now time for the dress. With so many dresses to pick from, Joe found one to be breath-taking. No it wasn’t the one that Jorge sported for fun! A much simpler dress took him back and he knew it was the one. Next stop…the cake! Realizing they needed to find a color scheme, the guys set out to find a cake that will tie it all together. The stress was getting to him and he spiraled into a mini panic attack. Not necessarily keeping the color scheme in mind, Joe headed to the flowers. Despite Jorge trying to influence him, it appeared he may not surprise Paola in a good way.

So…time to decide tuxedos. At this point I am thinking he has NO clue how long it takes to get a bridesmaid dress. As a four-time bridesmaid I can tell you it take a LONG time from the day you choose a dress to final fitting. He needed to get moving. Instead, he goofed with tuxedos even having his groomsmen dress in circus colors. Luckily it was all in fun! Seven days prior to the wedding, he searched for the dress and the color scheme. With a color that Paola was sure to NOT like, Joe settled on a bright green. My thoughts…at least they have a dress.

Five nights before the wedding, the boys went out partying and drinking. $1,300 of the budget went straight to the Bachelor party. What did this thoughtful groom do for his wife? The very next day and $345 later, the girls sat quietly in the house with some alcohol and snack foods. Her Maid of Honor, Debbie, felt horrible for Paola. “Paola means the world to me” Joe reminded us all, but it was clear he wasn’t thinking of her that day. In tears, Paola just can’t wait for the best time of her life to be over and done with it.

Only three days before the ceremony, it was time for some good news. Paola tried on the dress for the first time and she was brought to tears for the right reason. Joe has customized the dress just for her. It was thoughtful…which surprised he after the bachelorette party.

The day finally arrived. As the girls all arrived for hair and make-up, the bridesmaids anxiously put on their dresses which were WAY too short. I mean beyond hoochie. Something was terribly wrong. With only a few hours to the wedding, the ladies decided NOT to tell Paola. Joe called over the seamstress who agreed to fix the mess and get the dresses back in time. However, as Paola stood in her dress and the transportation waited outside, the girls sat uncomfortably in their robes. At that point I would have been at Nordstrom!

Forty-five minutes before the wedding, the dresses arrived. Somehow a miracle was pulled off and their behinds weren’t hanging out! The wedding went off beautifully. Joe was crying before Paola even had a chance. The day was perfect in so many ways. Congrats to them both!
