Oprah's Next Chapter

Gabrielle Douglas Takes Oprah’s Next Chapter Home

Just days after the closing ceremonies in London, Oprah sat down with a beautiful Iowa backdrop with Gabrielle Douglas and her whole family for a special episode of Oprah’s Next Chapter.  Leaving no question out of the 30 minute program, Oprah talked with Gabrielle – who goes by Gabby to her fans but really prefers the name Gabrielle – and her mother in a relaxed and open interview about anything and everything.  During the program, we were pleasantly surprised at how much was actually covered.  From her short life and her long journey to the Olympics, we hear about just what it takes to be an Olympic athlete – commitment and support and a lot of sacrifice.  By moving away from her family to train in Iowa, Gabrielle found the winning combination for her journey.  It’s clear that her core family is strong and that they support her 100%.

As Oprah talks about bullying, the big “hair” twitter thing, and Gabrielle’s relationship with her estranged father, we see a young woman, composed and brilliant. Quite possibly shining brighter than any Olympic gold medal could ever luster.  Congratulations Gabrielle and bravo Oprah for bringing us a look into the people who supported her and the accomplishment for all of them.  This Next Chapter reminds us that no matter what the prize, it really is a team effort of all those who held you up and supported your journey.

  1. Hi Oprah’s staff:

I want to see a rebroadcast of the Full interview with Ms. Gabrielle Douglas, please.

I set the DVR to record this on Sunday night. Unfortunately, tropical storm Issac was passing us and removed significant parts of the broadcast. Can you help?

    Thanks,
    J

    1. Hi J, Thanks for finding us at The Daily OWN! We are simply a fan site and don’t work for Oprah or OWN…but we’ve been following OWN since day one, so maybe we can help. For the interview, Keep your eye out and check on OWN’s schedule (go to Oprah.com, then OWN, then Schedule). If you search for Gabrielle Douglas, it will show you when it comes back on the schedule. So far, we don’t see it. It’s a great 30 minutes. Check out some of the clips. It gives you a great idea of what was talked about and a feeling for the show! Also, check on YouTube.com/OWN. Sometimes there are more clips out there! Great question! Thanks for asking.

  2. I was so happy to be able to watch this inspiring interview. Gabby Douglas really has quite the story, going from being bullied to winning Olympic gold medals. I also like that Gabby’s family was interviewed; I agree that she has quite the support system and I don’t think she could have done it any other way. This show gave my Dish coworkers and I a lot to talk about today. This is why I was glad I recorded it on my Hopper. This is my favorite equipment because I’m able to start watching the play back of the recording on my living room TV and continue watching on any TV in my house. It’s so convenient because I can get work done while I play back.
