Last Monday morning, Oprah started many Tweeters day with the following message – “Anybody need more money?”…a cleaver way for the teacher to remind her 9 million followers that America’s Money Class would be holding it’s first class and you needed to make sure you attended. Suze Orman’s America’s Money Class debuted on Oprah Winfrey Net with only the power and pinache that Suze can bring to 60 minutes of talking finances. Riviting and captivating, Suze had us on the edge of our seats from the beginning with the promise of a chance to win $50,000 for those who scored higher than 80% on their final exam at the end of the six-week series! So, while the money would breath life into The Daily OWN, I am staying true to this site and our intention and sharing my notes for every single class with everyone. We are in this journey together. May your lives be changed and inspired by Suze and may that reflect in the quality of your life every single day.
Here are my notes:
How do I get out of debt?
How to decide how to pay off debt.
Do what’s right vs. doing what’s easy.
What about the old FICO?
More Audience Questions…
Take the time and visit America’s Money Class pages on Oprah.com. Don’t get overwhelmed by all of the amazing information. Just take it piece by piece…one bite at a time. It’s really the kind of information and help that you can only get in a classroom…both a financial and a psychological one. Change your life…one bite at a time. See you in class!

So no one can argue that Rosie’s heart is at least 10 times larger than the average do-gooder. Literally 8 minutes into the show and I am searching for Kleenex. Rosie…I love you! I don’t want to spoil anything so just take a look.
Once I cleared my watery eyes, Roseanne Cash was on stage and talking about how she had brain surgery. What? I need to come out from under my rock occasionally. Self-diagnosed, it took years to get a true diagnosis. As she spoke about her new book, Composed, we are reminded of how much loss she had. She then told a great story. When she was younger, she had a loss of a different kind. Someone broke in and stole all of her jewelry. Her father, the famous Johnny Cash, reacted by sending her a piece of jewelry every week. Opening a package she’d find a note stating “my love is more precious than Cartier watches” along with of course, a Cartier watch. Thoughtful acts of a loving father. His daughter was always important to him. He even made a list of “100 Essential Country Songs” which served as her education. Following more stories about her children, the fires from her childhood and twitter, she put out a plea for her lost guitar. Did you take it?
Roseanne was a wonderful guest….very authentic. Of course they couldn’t let her out of there until she sang a little something….and thank you, Ro. Enjoy! [read more…]

Rosie began with a little advice for comics trying to make it into the biz. “You should be scared. It’s terrifying,” she advised. “Do your own life story because only you can tell that one. And just like surfing, in order to surf, you gotta get in the water. In order to be a stand-up, you gotta do it. Get on stage whenever you can.” Sage advice from one of the greatest. My advice…..”Be funny and don’t do weird things with your eyes. That’s creepy.” Yeah, I know…I should write a book.
Of course it was the perfect time to bring out Louie Anderson….someone who Rosie believes is one of the best stand-up comics to work the stage. It is easy to see why.
Following his set, he joined Rosie in the chairs with gift in hand….a survival kit which included “good gloves” and almost a dozen chapsticks. That will last a week or two tops! Taking a walk down memory lane, both Louie and Rosie relived their first jokes, reminisced about their true beginnings and talked about the comics they grew up admiring. Take a look.
Now I have to say….props to Oksana and the Ro Team for the best entrance so far on “The Rosie Show.” Semi-skating onto the stage, she arrived in a lavender skating dress. As a 1994 Olympic Gold Medalist, people can’t help but think that she must have it all. She has been in the business for 17 years and still going strong. I never knew that her mother passed away when she was 13. No wonder Rosie felt drawn to her early in her career. After a fast fashion change, she announced she was writing a book and would love to commentate for Ice Skating. I always felt for her. My sisters and I watched her on tour many years ago…and I knew that she had some struggles with alcohol. With the tragedies she had as a child, I could understand how she ended up there. I am SO happy to see her doing well and looking healthy. After the show, Oksana shared a few upcoming announcements with the audience and her fans.
To end the show, Rosie tried a new game, Scramboozled. Lots of fun. Check it out!

I am so happy to hear that Hollee is staying! Although we reached the end of the year, it appears that the once unemployed announcer is now officially OWN family! I have loved her since day one….when I originally wrote that I thought they needed to hire her after seeing her the first time. Her energy is fantastic and a great compliment to the RO Team. Congratulations, Hollee!

As Rosie took to the stage I just knew her wardrobe people were hanging their heads in the back. She took to the stage in a horrible Christmas sweater that looked like someone super-glued a teddy bear to the boob. Not pretty. Within moments she let us in on the “why” – it was her first “Ugly Christmas Sweater Pageant”. Clearly the sweaters were recent additions to the world making them truly one of a kind. You have to head over to Oprah.com and see them. Always ending the segment on a high, Rosie announced to the crowd that everyone was going home with the new book The Oprah Show: Reflections of an American Legacy. That is an AWESOME gift!
This show really highlighted that anyone can craft! You don’t have to be perfect to have fun being creative. The craftiness started with Rosie’s friend Bobby Pearce as they stenciled a mug while they belted out Grease’s “There Are Worst Things I Could Do”. As they admire their work, Ro informed the crowd they all were going home with her craft book, Crafty U: 100 Easy Projects the Whole Family Can Enjoy All Year Long
Realizing that her entire audience spent money on creating ugly sweaters, Rosie challenged Bobby to create a craft that would put them to use. He came up with a great idea! Rosie invited her next guest, Casey Gorab, who is starring in A Christmas Story. This is the young girl whom Rosie encouraged to follow her dreams when they met years ago at a Broadway show. Now she is living her dream! As a special treat for the audience, Casey sang “Somewhere Hovering over Indiana” from A Christmas Story: The Musical She is absolutely adorable! Before the performance, she gave everyone in the audience 2 tickets to the show on Christmas Eve. I just love holiday musicals. For years my family would see The Nutcrackera few weeks before Christmas…for some reason we stopped. I may have to work on that for next year. Some traditions should never die.
Marjorie Johnson, the Blue Ribbon Baker, was our next treat of the day bringing along yummy recipes to tempt us all. She even has a book out, Blue Ribbon Baking, which can be found on her website and in major book stores. It is full of lots of prize winning recipes. I’m not sure I can resist making the coffee cake. Here are a few from OWN.
• Sour Cream Streusel Coffee Cake
• Orange Sugar Christmas Trees Recipe
At the end of the segment, Rosie surprised Marjorie and her husband with a 7-day Carribean cruise on the Norwegian Pearl. I couldn’t help but smile….I just love Rosie. The fun wasn’t over yet – we still had a game to play. ♫ ♪ Oh Matchmaker, Matchmaker, make me a match. Find me a find. Catch me a catch. ♫ ♪ Sorry I couldn’t resist. Of course Rosie couldn’t play just any game for the holiday. Enjoy!
