OYou 2011 conference

Last Sunday, I wrote down these personal OYou! lessons that I learned from the day…and that I wanted to remember for next year’s OYou.  They really have nothing to do with all of the amazing information gained, but more to do with my tired feet.  Still, I thought I’d share how my tired mind works along with some photos.  (Brody, these photos are for you!)  Here are my tired feet lessons…

  • Flip flops are a foots best friend especially after so much walking around.  OYou! 2012 – Living Your Best Life in Flip Flops!  I see it already…  I’m pretty sure that I could sell it to Adam Glassman… it is possible to live your best life in flip flops…or at least put them into your bag and give your feet the gift when you need to.
  • If I had a wig, I cam pretty sure that every once in awhile I’d have a good hair day and it wouldn’t get “all flat or frizzy” from the southern humidity.
  • It doesn’t matter how long you prepare for a big event, you still never have enough time to lose enough weight, find the right outfit or figure out the questions to ask…so just do your best and go with it.
  • Eat a little something – even if you are too excited to eat – because coffee doesn’t sit well on an empty stomach.
  • People are people and real authentic people make you feel like your own real authentic true self.
  • Smile. Breathe. Just be you.

After a long eleven week personal boot camp challenge, my sister and I have finally arrived to Oprah week…a little tired, bruised, and emotionally drained. Challenging ourselves to put some of Oprah’s live your best life suggestions into practice has led us to this week and our final destination – Oprah’s week. While I had hoped that I would be excited and getting ready for the OYou conference, that is just not the case this time.  During our Suze Orman week we made the committment to cancel our trip if we couldn’t afford it. I mean, I love Oprah but the mortgage has to be paid and apparently, God has a different plan for us. So, with a little bit of a heavy heart I think that we are both moving into the last week together - proud of ourselves for going through this OYou boot camp challenge and better for it.

So here are our Oprah challenge points for this week.   With Oprah, we see wisdom, inspiration, and a goal of balance in her life.  We would like to take those points and put them into action in our own life.  Here’s what we are hoping to do over the next few days.

  • Wisdom – Learn something new and start a habit.  Read an enlightening book for 15 minutes each night.
  • Balance – Start Meditating.  No really, commit each day and start meditating.
  • Inspiration – Take a look at our personal vision board…and what we want our life to look like…

As part of our mini-boot camp challenge, we know that we all need a little motivation, so here’s your challenge.  We’ll be doing this along with you…

  • Create an Oprah inspiration piece that will keep you going…long after this boot camp challenge is over.

Finally, it’s time to also reflect and celebrate our accomplishments.  We made this commitment almost 3 months ago and through all the drama and peaks and valleys, we can see the finish line.  We are going to finish it strong…and then get ready, this was just a warm up to Oprah’s Lifeclass.  Perfect devine timing… Now, onto the week!

It must be fate that the week we start our Dr. Oz OYOU Boot Camp Challenge, I start feeling run down and sick.   Making the commitment for eleven weeks of focusing on little changes has not been an easy task.  It’s like preparing for a marathon by running a marathon…when you are not really even a runner.  With my over-achiever attitude and a little bit of addiction to perfection, I jumped into the deep end without my floaters.  Now, I’m treading water…and grateful that it’s Dr. Oz week.

As with all of Oprah’s wonderful experts, she’s always given us little bits to digest at a time.  With Dr. Oz, I’m taking the time to really look at his website – www.doctoroz.com and dive into some of the information.  Some of my favorite articles that have inspired me include:

  • 10 common household product that might be aging me  - I’m taking out chemicals and definitely looking for alternatives…and if high fructose corn syrup didn’t scare me before, it definitely does now!  It’s making me old!
  • Get Happier in 28 Days - There’s some inspirational ideas in here.  I’m not ready for another challenge, but I’m all for taking a look at these ideas.  It’s a 4 week plan…with just some simple steps.  And I can always use a little more happiness.
  • Move It and Lose It in 2011 - I stumbled upon this 11 week program and signed up.  It looks great…and it’s free…and even though it says that sign-ups were until August 22nd, they still let me in.  I’m all for a little free guidance on moving, nutrition, and more.
  • Pet Health - WHO KNEW!  The Dr. Oz website has a great new section under “Topics” called Pet Health.  With pets with allergies…and being allergy prone myself, this looks like it has a wealth of information!  I think I’m feeling better already.

So, after just a little exploring and looking, I have found an ocean of Dr. Oz information and I’ve taken the time to look and empower myself with the knowledge. Now comes the challenge part…and making the small changes in my OWN life.  Oprah always says, “When you know better, you do better.”  I sure hope so.
