Our OWN Don’t Miss List for this Weekend!

This weekend OWN is bringing us back some favorites and all new shows to talk about!  Be sure to set your DVR and  if you’re watching live, join us for a tweet or two during the shows!  Here’s your OWN quick list to help you out and give you a quick idea when the shows are on. Set your DVRs and sign into your twitter feeds.  It’s going to be a fun weekend!

  • Saturday – Don’t miss the Season Premier of  10 Kids 2 Dads.  What looks to be a real-life Modern Family, this family has found each other and found their way to OWN.  Each show is 30 minutes, but we get two full episodes. Tweet #10Kids2Dads 10pm/9c
  • Sunday – Be inspired with  Super Soul Sunday. OWN’s Fall Program Lineup Announced!

Today, OWN announced what the Fall programs will look like for the network as they go into their second Fall season and continue to find the programming that they hope will both bring in the viewers and stay true to Oprah’s overall vision.  Included in the lineup are some of our OWN favorites along with a few new series for us to try for a spin and a little glimpse at what’s on the horizon.  As OWN works to fill in each hour on the schedule, by looking at the upcoming shows it’s clear that their core team is focused on building one solid hour at a time and taking the time to do it right.  Personally, we think that OWN should fill in all those “extra hours” of non-OWN programs with reruns of The Oprah Winfrey Show…but we don’t get a vote.  

In the press release from the network, both OWN Presidents note the progress and sound very excited about what’s coming.  “We’ve laid the ground work at OWN with Oprah’s popular series and now it’s time to build on that success with these brand new shows,” said Erik Logan, president, in the OWN press release. ”Our viewers want to be entertained, to laugh and to have an ‘aha’ moment,” added Sheri Salata, president, OWN. “We are confident our new programming is delivering on that promise, infusing the core values of the Oprah brand into everything we put on the air.”

All new episodes of Oprah’s Next Chapter will bring Oprah to some familiar faces that include interviews with Stephen Colbert, Jennifer Hudson, Kelsey Grammer, and Bette Midler.  New episodes of Oprah’s Lifeclass will take us back into the classroom with Oprah at Harpo Studios and are sure to bring some aha moments to the world.   Also, all new episodes of Super Soul Sunday and Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s will be part of the Fall programs too…so, clear the space on your DVR by September!

New series’ announced for the Fall lineup include Iyanla, Fix My Life (Premieres Saturday, Sept. 15, 10 p.m. ET/PT)  that will bring us into Iyanla’s workshop and “tell it like it is” table on cable!  Also, Oprah: Where Are They Now? (Premieres Tuesday, Oct. 2, 9-11 p.m. ET/PT) will take a look at some of Oprah’s most memorable guests from The Oprah Winfrey Show.  Keeping with key Oprah wins, OWN’s new show TV Guide Magazine’s Top 25 Best Oprah Show Moments (Premieres Tuesday, Aug. 28, 9-11 p.m.) will revisit some of the most memorable moments in television with Oprah and TV Guide that not only made history, but shaped the way that television looks today. 

On the horizon for OWN in 2013 include a new series Life with La Toya which will be a reality show…and pretty much that means that it could be about almost anything in LaToya Jackon’s busy life and uber-famous family.  Also keeping company with Life with LaToya includes a new show called The Customer is Always Right that is described as “a high-stakes experiment with customers as the boss,” and another program called Neighborvention where people come together to help those who are in crisis.  This sounds a little like “Hope Mob” meets network cable television.  Just the dose of inspiration that the world needs.

So as OWN is looking into the future and already way ahead into 2013 and probably beyond, we are sitting back and watching the progress.  One hour at a time…one program at a time.

Join OWN for a Summer of New Shows

OWN summer program lineupAs most network series take their regular summer break and leave us with final results or shocking cliffhangers to wait out over the long, hot months, OWN is bringing us some promising new shows that just may catch an audience and give the viewers what they are looking for – some Oprahesque programming along with some “Live your best life” fun and philosophy.  With more than a handful of new shows and old favorites heading the lineup, the schedule is covering all their bases.  Get your DVR ready! Here is a quick look at what’s coming and what to look for in the next couple of weeks and beyond.  Make sure you watch and then, go to Oprah.com to let Oprah’s team know what you think about the new shows!  Believe me…they are listening and your opinion counts!  Grab some sunscreen, your favorite cold drink and the remote…here’s the OWN summer lineup!

  • Iyanla, Fix My Life - A big official welcome to Iyanla Vanzant to the OWN family. As a regular teacher on Oprah’s Lifeclass series, Iyanla is taking over Harpo center stage to bring us a tell it like it is program that will move you, help you and inspire you to open up and live your best life. Let the teaching begin Ms. Vanzant.  Like no one else can, Iyanla helps to open up your soul and get to the heart of the the pain. Only then can you move forward, stop the bleeding and fix your life.  Sneak Peek – Saturday, June 2nd at 9/8c.   • Are You Normal, America? - From Oprah’s OWN producers comes a fun summer game show that may or may not have you relieved about being normal.  Through juries of peers, by polling and simple man-on-the-street interviews, real life situations shot in the field and in-studio demonstrations, this show will take a look at odd behaviors and see just how common they may be in our society. Contestants, money and a little self-discovery along the way! Barry Poznick, a seasoned  game show creator and producer, as well as actress and comedian, Kim Coles, will be hosting the show and YOU will be playing along. How can you not?   • Lives on Fire! - Witness the journey of four different women who risk their lives daily to assist in California’s most dangerous disasters. These female firefighters respond to life and death situations; battle the intense heat…all in a predominately male profession. As their fight heats up against nature’s forces, they struggle to find the balance in work and home as mothers, daughter, wives, and girlfriends. Each of the women brings a little something different to the show and all will give us a little insight and understanding that while we may be very different, often times we see how similiar our lives really are.  Join for this OWN Series premier Friday, June 8th at 10/9c!   • Million Dollar Neighborhood - This Canadian HIT is finally coming to the states.  Show participants in a small town of Aldergrove, Canada, took part in a social economic experiment to increase their collective net worth by $1 million in just 10 weeks. A financial team gave families a challenge each week to help them increase their income, reduce their debts and overall improve their financial standing. Not only did they receive the tips they need to be successful, they also were given opportunities to win money.   • Real Life – The Musical  - Get ready to sing your heart out. OWN is bringing us a new reality series that help people add a little song and dance to their lives.  For those who have a hard time finding the words, this new series allows people to say what they haven’t been able to…through song!  Partnered with vocal coaches and choreographers, each week someone will get the chance to stage a live “flash musical” for someone they love.  Friends and family lend a hand in their surprise performance…one that could change the lives of both the singer and the loved one.  Get ready to sing, dance and be moved!   • Our America with Lisa Ling - Lisa Ling is back!  Without question, this show has been a standout hit for OWN. Not only is Lisa Ling a hard-hitting reporter, her empathy takes viewers to a new level of discovery.  Coming up this season, the show will feature in-depth stories on topics such as the Native American culture, living life as a nun, swingers and teen pregnancy. Go along with her on the journey and see how just being aware of the world around you can change so much.  When you watch, you will be moved and you will be changed. Along with all of these new and returning shows, keep an eye out for all new episodes of Oprah’s Lifeclass – Summer School, Oprah’s Next Chapter and Super Soul Sunday!  In addition, here are a couple of new shows to watch for that are rumored to be coming later this summer…

  • Super Saver Showdown - Get ready as this new show from OWN pits two bargain hunters against each other to see whose coupon clipping, super saving, and DIY skills are superior.  In each of the episodes, two “Super Savers” will help families looking to create a party on a budget and share their savings tips with the families as they rush to pull off the party.   At the end, they will be judged by host Kristan Cunningham on their savings and style, the best “Super Saver” wins $10,000. Game on!    Sneak Peek and premier – July. Date not yet announced.
  • Lovetown USA -  OWN is making us fall in love…well, almost.  This series will follow a pair of matchmakers (“Hitch,” Paul Carrick Brunson, and “love whisperer” Kailen Rosenberg with over 200 successful marriages to her name) and eight singles as they search for love in this “social experiment” that takes place in the small town of Kingsland,Georgia. For 30 days, they take up residence helping the locals find love in their own backyard.   Sneak Peek and premier – August. Date not yet announced.
  • Married to the Army: Alaska - This show sounds interesting. It’s an inside look at the lives of Army wives living in Alaska, facing their own fears and forging their own unique sisterhood with other wives that only they can understand. Tremendously strong and courageous in their own right, this real reality show may open our hearts and our world to what these military families offer for our country.  Series premier – Not yet announced.

OWN Announces Summer Primetime Lineup & Show Previews

OWN has released their summer primetime schedule and we are SO excited!  President of OWN, Sheri Salata shared that “Our new summer series have a common thread of being fun, entertaining and meaningful…It’s important to give the audience programming that makes them feel good, or provides them with inspiration in their own lives.”  That is one thing that OWN seems to be getting right as they continue to build the network show by show.   It won’t be long until the world considers them to be the template for exceptional programming.

“We feel strongly about the current state of the channel,” added Erik Logan, president, OWN. “We’re seeing success with our original programming and are continuing to build the network one night at a time.”

Here is how the schedule lays out from OWN.  As a special treat, they have released previews to all the shows except ONC.  I included them below with the show descriptions.  Enjoy!

NEW Shows Heading to OWN – Iyanla, Army Wives, Sextuplets & Staten Island Moms

Today OWN released more information on four new series coming to the network. “Elura and Michele take Staten Island,” “Iyanla Fix My Life,” “Married to the Army: Alaska” and “Six Little McGhees” are all new original programming. In addition, OWN announced they picked up “Oprah’s Master Class” for a third season and even ordered 10 additional episodes of “Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s,” a fan favorite.

“We have solid momentum and are building the network with a strong mix of programs that connect and engage with our audience,” said Sheri Salata, president, OWN. “The new series announced today are relevant shows with real stakes, real drama and a whole lot of heart. We look forward to sharing them with our viewers.”

Here is a quick bite at the upcoming shows:

“Elura and Michele Take Staten Island” – The show follows two fast-talking friends, housewives and former prosecutors who have turned telling people what to do into an art. With their mediation business and crazy Staten Island family, this show is sure to be a blast. The show is being produced by Picture Shack Entertainment, and executive produced by George Plamondon and Betsy Schechter.

“Iyanla Fix My Life”- Finally Iyanla is coming to OWN! All of those who have watched her for years know that this show will change lives as she helps people overcome what is holding them back. This show is sure to be a great compliment to “Oprah’s Lifeclass”…especially since it is being produced by Harpo Studios with two of favorites, executive producers Jonny Sinclair and Jill Van Lokeren.

“Married to the Army: Alaska”- Apparently Alaska has over 10,000 active-duty soldiers with around 7,500 of them who are currently deployed in Afghanistan. Although the war is over, many of the families are still missing loved ones who haven’t made it home yet…trying to deal with their daily lives. For these women whose husbands serve in the US Army, deployment throws their lives into a world that few of us understand. Luckily a sisterhood is formed amongst the wives allowing for a support group filled with truly understanding friends. This unique docu-series will give all of us a deeper look into the realities of the lives of the families of those who support our country. The show is produced by 44 Blue Productions with executive producer Stephanie Drachkovitch.

“Six Little McGhees”- Sextuplets? OMG how does anyone handle six kids? Well, we are about to find out! Mia and Rozonno McGhee not only juggle their marriage and a business, but they also do their best to keep up with six energentic toddlers! These high school sweethearts gave birth to Columbus, Ohio’s first set of sextuplets. I can’t even imagine how they do it. Luckily they have a lot of support. This docu-series follows the lives of this blessed and unique family. The show is produced by Candor Entertainment, in conjunction with Discovery Fit & Health and OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.

Three New Original Shows Coming to OWN – “Lovetown, USA”, “Lives on Fire” & “Are You Normal, America?”

Time to get excited! OWN announced today that three new shows will be coming to OWN…Lovetown, USA, Lives on Fire and Are You Normal, America?. “Each of our new shows is right on brand and aligned with Oprah’s intention to bring our audience meaningful, entertaining programming,” said Sheri Salata, president, OWN. Added Erik Logan, president, OWN, “We feel really good about the direction the network is heading in 2012 and we’re just getting started.”

Lovetown, USA follows a pair of matchmakers (“Hitch,” Paul Carrick Brunson, and “love whisperer” Kailen Rosenberg with over 200 successful marriages to her name) and eight singles as they search for love. This “social experiment” takes place in the small town of Kingsland in Georgia. For 30 days, they take up residence in this small town helping the locals to find love in their own neighborhoods. Everyone in the town is getting involved! “This one-of-a-kind social experiment is the biggest dating challenge in TV history; examining the effects love can have on the DNA of one American community.” The show will be produced by BBC Worldwide Productions for OWN.

Lives on Fire is a totally different show. The show highlights the journey of four different women who risk their lives daily to assist in California’s most dangerous disasters. These female firefighters respond to life and death situations; battle the intense heat…all in a predominately male profession. As their fight heats up against nature’s forces, they struggle to find the balance in work and home as mothers, daughter, wives, and girlfriends. Each of the women brings a little something different to the show. Nica Vasquez is a mother with 15 years’ experience in the fire field; Rosanne Grier is in her 5th year as a seasonal firefighter trying to get a foot hold in the field; Michele Dyck has 7 years’ experience who recently transferred to a more dangerous station; and Diley Greiser, a mother in her 7th year as firefighter/paramedic. The show allows viewers a look into a dangerous profession and how it impacts normal life. This show is also produced by BBC Worldwide Productions.

The final series is a game show called Are You Normal, America?. I am most excited about this show! Through juries of peers, by polling and simple man-on-the-street interviews, real life situations shot in the field and in-studio demonstrations, this show will take a look at odd behaviors and see just how common they may be in our society. Finally we will all find out if we are NORMAL. On each of the episodes, contestants will try to win big money as they learn whether they are normal or not. On their road to discovery, viewers may find comfort in knowing their oddities are really normalcies….or they find out they are bit abnormal. Either way it is all in good fun! Produced by Harpo Studio and Zoo Productions and with executive producers like Jill Van Lokeren and Jon Sinclair from Harpo, I am certain the show will be a BLAST! We’ve have been hoping for a game show…and finally it is here.

On an all-new season of “Ask Oprah’s All Stars,” Dr. Phil, Suze Orman and Dr. Oz team up to answer the most pressing viewer questions about health, wealth and mental well-being. Hosted by Gayle King, the season will feature specially themed episodes: Ultimate Checklists, That’s Embarrassing!, Is This Normal?, Love, Sex & More, 20 Questions for 20-Somethings and Myths, Secrets & Confessions. Also, there’s a surprising update for season one’s 52-year old virgin. It’s an hour of tell-it-like-it-is advice from America’s and Oprah’s favorite experts. Produced by Stage 29 Productions.
DON’T TELL THE BRIDE

What happens when you give a cash-strapped couple $25,000 to create their dream wedding? A lot of drama when the bride and groom are separated three weeks leading up to the nuptials, and the groom must plan the wedding with no help from his fiancée. The bride won’t see the invitation until it arrives in the mail, she’ll try on her dress just prior to walking down the aisle, and will see the reception for the first time with the other guests. “Don’t Tell the Bride” promises tantrums and tears of joy before the “big day” is done.  Narrated by Caroline Rhea (“Sabrina, the Teenage Witch”), the series is produced by Shed Media U.S. and based on a series format from Renegade Pictures and Digital Rights Group.

OPRAH’S LIFECLASS - formerly known as “Your OWN Life (the oprah class)”

In this all-new eight-week series, Oprah reaches back through the 25-year history of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” to teach the lessons that matter most to her. Oprah will share her most personal revelations, and what she thinks now about those iconic show moments and guests. The series will also feature a companion online class accompanying the series including actual course work on Oprah.com, for an even more enriching experience. Produced by Harpo Productions.

OUR AMERICA WITH LISA LING

The new season of “Our America with Lisa Ling” delves into some of the most challenging, thought-provoking issues in society today. The OWN Network Continues to Offer Original Programming in Primetime

The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) continues to take root in television as the primetime lineup continues to grow this June. A variety of shows will hit OWN this June including a few familiar faces.

Quick breakdown of what is coming in June:

  • Documentary Club: “Sons of Perdition” airs June 2nd at 9/8c
  • “Unfaithful: Stories of Betrayal” starts up on June 6th at 9pm ET
  • “The Dr. Laura Berman Show” premieres June 6th at 10pm ET
  • “Finding Sarah” with The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson begins June 12th at 9pm ET

Here are quick blurbs on each show…let us know which one you are looking forward to!

“Sons of Perdition” (Doc-Club)
The 2-hour documentary will give us all an inside peek at “Sons of Perdition”. This film will delve into the lives of 3 teenage boys following their escape from a Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints compound located on the Utah, Arizona border, which happens to be the oldest polygamist community in the US. Without family, money, education or any real support, these teens try to make sense of their lives and surroundings.

“Unfaithful: Stories of Betrayal”
This intense series focuses on couples that have had infidelity in their marriage and survived. They share their personal stories as a therapist tries to provide guidance on how to be able to move on and heal. Reminding us that love can endure. This show should be really useful for providing couples with tools on how to deal with infidelity in their relationships. Hopefully it will open up conversations and remind us all of how fragile relationships can be if we don’t take care of them.

“The Dr. Laura Berman Show”
OWN Network’s show, “In the Bedroom with Dr. Laura Berman” is bringing sex, intimacy, body image, and erectile dysfunction into our lives….giving words and conversation to things that make us blush and turn away. However, she does it in a REAL way that makes us watch, learn and understand. With over 20 years of experience as a sex educator, researcher and therapist, Dr. Berman shares tips with couples as they try to uncover what’s really going on between the sheets and in their relationships.

“Finding Sarah”
Being royal has its perks, but life can’t always be easy…especially if you are the Duchess of York. Anyone who knows anything about the Royals, knows of Sarah Ferguson. A constant in the royal news, Fergie, as many refer to her, joined OWN for this incredible docu-series. Finding Sarah tells of the Duchess’ great emotional struggle to rebuild her life.
“Visionaries: Inside the Creative Mind”
This series gives the viewers a glimpse inside the world’s most iconic innovators and their creative process…allowing us to get inside their heads. With only 5 episodes, be sure to catch them all! The series debuts with filmmaker Tyler Perry on June 17th. Each week will be followed with a new guest. This season’s guests will include: filmmaker Tom Ford, director/writer James Cameron, musician will.i.am, and photographer Annie Leibovitz, as each reveals their challenges, rewards and personal experiences. This unique show provides the viewer with “unique insight into what made these visionaries who they are and what continues to inspire them.”

“Ryan & Tatum: The O’Neals”
Ryan O’Neal and his daughter, Tatum, have their differences and are sure to have their share of drama on OWN. Hopefully this won’t be a trainwreck like most reality shows and will stay true to the docu-series feel of past series.

“Carson Nation”
In this show, Carson Kressley (“Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” alum) takes his sense of fashion and styleand travels across the nation transforming people “one town at a time”. Each town will have its own adventures, stories and people….all of which will make these “make-betters” even more dramatic and emotional. SO for those still sporting the stir-up leggings, crazy animal prints and BIG hair, you may want to think twice about stepping outside. No telling where Carson will be!
