At Oprah’s Lifeclass in NYC, we fell in love with Megan Castran, fellow OWN Ambassador and @JewelChic on social media. Her energy is sunshine and her spirit is something that inspires! So, since then, we’ve been also loving her husband, Paul Castran and he doesn’t even know! Watch this and you will too. Paul is an amazing spirit and joins Megan for Saturday videos. This past Saturday, he joined the “Do It In A Dress” movement in a big way! Watch, fall in love with these two and then, donate to help put a girl through school! Every single dollar helps… $5, $10, $25…or $240 for the whole year. Support this movement and change the world. Paul put on a dress. That’s worth a few dollars, don’t you think?
Tonight on OWN, we all are being treated to an incredible story about something many of us know so little about. Filmed in a little bit of both the digital and real world, this unique story follows the personal journey of 23 year old Eva Markvoort as she courageously battles Cystic Fibrosis. Struggling with the realization that someone must die in order for her donor pager to beep, Eva keeps herself busy with online friends…who understand her battle all too well. The documentary takes us into her world and gives us a glimpse at the way she makes it through each and every day.
“65_RedRoses” is sure to leave us all with a greater appreciation of life and the strength it takes to endure one’s own struggles. Take a peek at the trailer and be sure to set your DVR for tonight, Thursday, May 3rd at 9/8C…only on OWN!
After a strong two months into our Oprah OYou Boot Camp, this summer school session of living your best life is moving into the final stretch. Already warmed up and ready to be open to anything, this week we are taking on Adam Glassman and all of his creativity and style lessons. So after reading some of Adam’s old columns and finding a YouTube clip here and there, here are the three areas that we’ve decided to focus on for the next few days.
Find our wardrobe uniform – Adam talks about moving from schlumpy to stylish and finding what works for you…and then, wearing a version of that everyday. So…let the search begin…(I’m thinking t-shirt and flip-flops are probably NOT on Adam’s list…)
Mission Impossible – Diving into the closet and finding some really great pieces to repurpose into our everyday lives. It’s inexpensive, a great idea and there are things in there that deserve to be worn…special occassion or not! I think there’s a scarf or two in there that is ready to resurface…
Style & Class 101 – Explore Adam’s tips from donating old cell phones to picking the right bag to looking and feeling more confident. Learn, learn, learn….
If you are feeling a little inspired on your own, here’s a mini-boot camp challenge for you…
Habitat.org – Any old paint or home remodeling supplies left over? How about an old piece of furniture or lighting fixture? Help someone style up their home AND more by donating your items to the Habitat.org store nearest you. While you are there…take a look around. You might feel inspired too!
Getting ready for O You 2011 in Atlanta and feeling the effects. Feeling “pillow proud” and on our way to house proud from Nate. Feeling body connected as Bob Greene’s advice still whispers in my ear. Feeling a little more focused and directed to get out of my way from Martha Beck. Now…it’s Peter’s turn. Our Oprah OYou Boot Camp has entered into the week of organizational expert, Peter Walsh…and I have a feeling it’s going to be more than just cleaning out a closet.
Inspired by his visits to the Oprah Winfrey Show, I have on more than one occassion tackled a ‘decluttering’ and organizing task. Here’s my problem…it doesn’t stick. Yes, I value people more than things. Yes, I deserve to live with an organized room/closet/kitchen cabinets… Yes, everything should have a space. But…somehow, over time, things seem to wind up in disarray again. So, what this tells me is that Peter Walsh week is more than just cleaning up and cleaning out…there is some deeper “O” moment that is there that I haven’t gotten to. I only hope that with this O You Boot Camp and focus this week, that I am able to get closer to it.
Here is the plan as we move through the week and a mini-plan for you if you feel inspired to join in and put yourself to the test.
Project: Clean a closet – My sister and I both agree that we each have closets in our homes that need some attention. Keeping in mind Peter’s advice to “keep it, donate it, or sell it” we will be moving through the space…and for myself, hopefully finding the floor.
Donate and pass on un-used items to charity.
Find out how to make it stick…what does this mean?
For a mini-boot camp challenge try this… pay something forward in these little (but BIG) ways…
Join FreeCycle.org in your area. Get started and pass along items in your house that you just don’t need anymore.
Clean out your office or your craft closet and find the extra supplies that are unused and call one of your local schools. I’m sure that there are teachers everywhere that are looking for their OWN angels…maybe you could be someones angel this week!
