Iyanla Fix My Life

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to view Iyanla Fix My Life with multiplatinum hip-hop artist  DMX, airing this Saturday night on OWN.  Throughout the entire hour, we were riveted and watching and we know you will be too.  Iyanla is back and powerful with an open heart and a deep desire to move people to fix their lives.   There is no pretense.  This isn’t the fake reality that you see all around you…or the explosive reality of the 1990′s talk show circuit.  This is showing up…to real lives with real issues and having an amazing team that help to shine light on the lessons and the humanity in the moment.

Iyanla Fix My Life – this episode will make you realize that there is more to fixing your life than you think.  Tune in and don’t miss it!  Here’s a preview of the premier airing this Saturday night on OWN at 9pm, 8pm central.

Iyanla Wraps Up First Season of Fix My Life

by paula on November 28, 2012

As quickly as it started, it seems like it’s over. Iyanla VanZant came to OWN this year with her fierce no BS attitude and kicked it up a notch.  With her brash and tough waves of shaking people into their own reality, Iyanla took over an hour each Saturday and brought people face to face with issues that were holding them back…and with a good intention, she walked each of them to the edge to get a closer look and gave them a little push over.  I’m not sure that there was one week that there were not tears or big aha moments because Iyanla Fix My Life was about showing how communication and getting to the core of your pain can not only heal you, but heal your world.

So, while these two sisters were late to the infamous “cookie party” this season in West Hollywood with Iyanla after OYou, we have always known from her heart that what she says, she means…what she knows, is her truth and what she hopes for is a better life for all of us.  Fix My Life is like a life workshop at 120 mph but Iyanla’s a good driver…a little crazy and out-of-the-box sometimes, but she’s going to get you there…and once you arrive, it’s all up to you to do the work. Iyanla, Congratulations on the first of many workshops and shows on OWN!

On Iyanla’s Fix My Life, Iyanla helps us to understand the personal dynamics that women have with each other and how we all move through the world, actually more connected than may even we realize.  This week, Iyanla sat down with the bloggers behind Six Brown Chicks, with all her magic in an effort to help these soul sisters peel back the layers of hurt and frustration and pain that had broken down their relationships and begin the healing where love once reigned.  Often even great communicators miss the true connections in our lives…even the best of us.

To being the process, Iyanla brings this broken team of friends into the same space, strips them down by taking off their “masks” and make-up and sits them down for a game of cards but not your normal everyday game. It’s a game designed to open up, call it what it is, and expose the pain that is buried deep inside.  “Can I pick another card,” we hear when one sister chooses a hard card.  Always looking to go around the issues, sometimes we all want to pick another card and avoid the hard stuff.  However when Iyanla is in the room, that isn’t an option.

Reminded that we often speak about how important our relationships are with the women in our lives, sometimes our actions speak differently and we forget, these friendships need and deserve attention as well.  Iyanla reminds us to show up with heart and outstretched arms into the lives of those that matter…and if you need to, ask for forgiveness.  A gentle reminder that our relationships are what fuels your own life and our own spirit.  “Open your heart,” Iyanla tells us.  Even in our most vulnerable space,   “trust us with your heart,” she teaches.  “You can trust them…they won’t leave you…”  Suffer or trust – a lesson that Iyanla gives to everyone in the room and watching.  Open your heart and trust in yourself to make the right choice in your world.  You don’t win if you close your heart…instead you suffer.

Iyanla brought her Fix My Life magic into the world of the soul sisters from the blog, Six Brown Chicks. In an attempt to heal, lessons and respect resonated through the hour. Love the women in your life. Support the women in your life. Communicate with the women in your life. We all are walking the same road…some of the journey may be different, but fundamentally we all want the same thing – to be honored and safe and loved.  With love, these blogger sisters hope that Six Brown Chicks recognize that the words – written, spoken and unspoken – might be what are powerful but what matters most is how we move through the world with the relationships that come into our lives.  In time, we will forget the words…but there is a reason why we never forget the people.

When you hear Iyanla Vanzant speak, you know that there is something special there.  When you hear her story, it brings you a greater understanding of the strength and power of the words and wisdom coming from her.  When you see her in action on her new show Iyanla Fix My Life on OWN, you realize that there is more going on here than an intervention and family therapy program.  In Iyanla Fix My Life, the fixing is the work that is done after the problems are broken open to help break free from the past and move forward in life.

In this amazing program that takes Iyanla out into the world and into people’s lives, we are given the most amazing gift.  In each and every episode, we are offered reminders of how important life is…how important we are…how important relationships are.  We are reminded to “get off our position” and to see the world around us differently…and see ourselves differently.  We are shown that love and energy are key ingredients to healing.  And we are reminded that living our best life begins with standing in our truth and healing our own lives.

Iyanla may not be your conventional therapist with the note pad and couch but this is what makes her so special.  With no script in hand, Iyanla shows up in Fix My Life and brings with her powerful, no-nonsense lessons for this life workshop.  It’s as if she understands – life is precious and don’t sit around and waste it.  Fix what’s broken and get on with living the best life that you can.  Get out from under your lies and secrets and hurt and destruction and get on with making the most of each and every day.  The tools are there for the taking each Saturday night on OWN.  Unlike no other…this show has more than heart and soul.  It has Iyanla.  Bravo OWN.

Here are a few videos from this week’s episode from OWN and Oprah.com.  Amazing work.  Amazing lessons. Enjoy.
