Living the Lessons, Oprah's LifeClass

The Push-Pull of the Ego

Oprah’s Lifeclass…like a graduate class on life. If you want to do well, you show up and do the work. If you don’t care…then no one can make you care…not even the magical powers of Oprah Winfrey. So, when the first class started with “Ego,” I thought to myself, “Oh no…what am I in for?” Taking me back to my psychology classes in college, I realized that this is REALLY a class. And as with anything in life…you get out of it what you put into it.

It’s all about the three letters. Even the name “ego” makes me feel intimidated. Ego’s are tough, brash, pretentious…and sometimes just mean. Who would think that a name – just one letter away from a yummy morning breakfast food brand – could hold such pretense for me. But it does…because my ego grew up as a mean girl…and I was always the victim of it’s actions. No more. As a grown up, I’ve learned to fight back. As of Monday’s class, I’m learning to tune it out all together…because like with all “mean girl types”…when you find your OWN authentic power, you take away theirs. Be brave…and push back. Your OWN self is more powerful than anything…even a mean girl.
