Zach Anner

Tonight, Zach rolls in to Sin City and the City of Roses and opens our eyes to a few new experiences.  A visitor of both of these great cities, both have won my heart and taken my money, but Zach’s ability to let me see the “newness” in somewhere that I have been a few too many times reminds me that enjoying something is all about perspective and attitude.  Throughout Zach’s entire itinerary, that is the one thing that he never forgot to bring with him – an awesome attitude!  So, next time you are dragging your suitcase through the airport or dreading a trip that you’ve made hundreds of times, change your attitude and find 5 new things to do.  Open up your life to having a great time…and you WILL have a great time.  Just roll with it.   You’ll be glad you did!

Here are Zach’s top five great times for each city. Let’s roll!

Viva Las Vegas Countdown
5. Green Valley Ranch Resort and Spa – Living large in Vegas, Zach gets a special tour with his magic 3 words, ” I know Oprah.”  Wow…and it works!  I always knew Oprah was magical!  A private patio with your own private pool…yes, magical.
4. Looking for Beginner’s Luck - Zach hits the casino for some “21″ lessons and how to become a high roller with some high roller lessons. Zach reminds us from his lessons that Blackjack is a game of math and “you don’t go with your heart because your heart is a loser.”  Roulette asked for no skills…so, luck be with Zach!
3. Jubilee Showgirls – Seeing one of the last showgirl reviews in Vegas, Zach gets the inside, backstage look at what it takes to put on THAT kind of performance.  LOVED it…he’s so funny…
2. The Village Buffet – Time to eat!  Zach’s ready to try the 120 items on the menu…and rolls on in to one of the most famous buffets in Vegas.  With a little bit of everything from a little bit of everywhere, looks like you’ll want to wear your “adjustable” pants.  But if we know Zach, he’s looking for the sweets!

2. Coffee, Coffee, Coffee! - Coava Coffee is making Zach feel extra special with some extra special treatment from Coava co-owner, Matt Higgins.  Serve me up!  This is a MUST stop on my next visit to Portland.  Problem is…you may have a hard time getting me to leave.  I LOVE my coffee!
1. Rock Climbing on Mt. Hood – Zach’s adventurous spirit hooks him up with “Adventures without Limits” and Doug Knighton and Nolan Pavone.  Zach’s thinks he’s ready to climb some rocks but finds out…it’s not as easy as it looks.  But Zach’s spirit is MUCH BIGGER than any old mountain…it’s both amazing and inspiring.  Go climb a rock!  Make mine a little one please…

Tonight, Zach took me to two of my most favorite places in the world – to my home town of San Francisco and to one of my most favorite places, New York City.  A frequent visitor to both of these great locations, Zach gave me a different perspective and counted me down with some unique and fun lists for each place.  While I may not go “crabbing” since I just turned vegetarian and I don’t’ think speed dating is for me, I had an amazing time and didn’t even have to leave my sofa!  Thanks OWN!  But, here’s the true take away from Zach Anner and these OWN shows.  They have made me stop and look for the little things that I often overlook…both at home and in all the places that I visit.  When I travel, I always use a “packing list” to make sure that I don’t’ forget anything.  Now, I think I need to add a “must see” list for each place…to make sure that I dont’ forget anything!

Here are Zach’s top five “must see” list for each city.  Let’s roll!

San Francisco Countdown
5. Crabbing off the Dock of the Bay  – SF is all about the Dungeness Crab Experience!  While a visit to Fisherman’s Wharf is a must for the San Francisco experience, Zach is giving us a little local perspective too!  Zach spends a day with Seaforager.com’s Kirk Lombard and finds out just how crabbing works.  The tour is not your average SF tour…but looks to be 10 times better.  Step out of the ordinary and into the extraordinary!  I love San Francisco!
4. Jelly Bean Mania - Zach can’t keep his hands off the Jelly Bellys at the Jelly Belly factory in SF.  With all the pretty colors and samples, he’s like a kid in a candy shop…literally!  Sweet tooth for sure…
3. Go Giants! GO! – Rooting for the home team is a must…but trying to catch a home run ball takes a little more than luck from McCovey Cove takes a boat and some patience!
2. THE Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory – China town is amazing…and fortune cookies from the Gold Gate Co. are fantastic!  A psychic in a little cookie…hello! Plus the cookies are like no calories…so, an extra reason to enjoy a couple!
1. Sailing on the Bay  – Topping Zach’s list is sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge…something his father has always wanted to do.  So, as a local…let me just add that sailing on the SF Bay is not for the faint hearted.  It is COLD even on the WARMEST day of the year….It is what it is.  So, with the help of the Bay Area Association for Disabled Sailors (BAADS), Zach makes this dream come true for his dad in a little different way.  It’s amazing and a MUST for a SF visit!

New York Countdown
5. Helicopter Ride over the City -  To gain a little perspective, Zach took a different view of it by taking a helicopter tour so that he could see all of Manhattan.  Twenty minutes later, he’s “Ice Man” and has a lay of the land!
4. Comedy Club School - Zach’s dream is to perform at Caroline’s Comedy Club…and to make his dream come true, he’s taking a class with Linda Smith to get him ready for his 2 minutes of fame…and funny!  Nervous?  Just roll with it Zach…0
3. Speed Dating with Zach - Matchmaking is on Zach’s list and Amy Van Doran sets him up for a whirlwind date as Zach spends 5 minutes for 5 women.  After the sessions, Zach comes out a little brighter and exclaims, “Zach Anner is datable!”  Hello…everyone else already knew that!  I mean, seriously funny and smart.  Hello?
2. Finding Sweets at the Brooklyn Farmacy – Always looking for some sweet sweets in his travels, Zach finds an old-time soda fountain with some timeless concoctions and favorites.  Enjoying a root beer float and an egg cream, we find out that jerks are nice and egg creams have no egg nor cream.  Who knew?
1. On Stage at Caroline’s  – While most of us would simply have a visit to the famous comedy club on our list, Zach jumps right in and rolls up to the stage in his travels.  Not your typical tourist…but that’s why we love him!
