Gayle King Show

On the Gayle King Show – A Full Topic Day with John Avalon, Kate Bolick and Anna Netrebko

Gayle is already on fire this morning before I even have one cup of coffee down!  Right into the news…and right into politics.  This woman is fearless!  So, get ready…here we go.

  • About John Avlon and Last Nights Debate – First, I have to ask the question – does anyone know how many debates we have already had?  I’m losing count and it’s not 2012.  John is here from CNN to help us figure it all out and Herman Cain is the “where did he come from” candidate.  Romney…a little bit of a sleeper.  And Chris Christie…well, his Romney endorcement pitch was a little over the top yesterday. I mean, if we can survive The Jersey Shore on MTV, we can survive anything.
  • About “Occupy Wall Street” Movement and Moment – What is it?  Well, it’s in 17 cities and “a magnet for people who are frustrated, angry…” John Avlon tells us.  “The are reacting to economic anxiety.  Frustration with the Fed, big banks…the sense that there is corruption…it’s interesting…”  Will it pick up some traction and become something more organized?  (Is this our mini-Egypt?…where’s the call in number?)   Such SMART conversations.
  • About Obama’s Vote for Jobs – Congress doesn’t want jobs?  No, just “Obama’s proposed jobs”  What happened? Cooties? No,   Politics.  “The worse things get, the hotter things get for me politically,” is one game in Washington that John talks about and calls it “the hottest place in hell…” It’s just wrong.  People just need to work together…it’s playground rules 101.  Somebody needs to give our government a copy of that book!
  • About the future publishing – John’s also the Editor of “Deadline Artists: America’s greatest newspaper columns.”  Erma, Abby, Mrs. Manners…All of these women and advice that adorned the fridge and yellowed over time…  Will papers and magazines die?  No.  I don’t think so.  There’s something about feeling the pages at your fingertips that technology hasn’t captured.  It’s the experience… just my opinion.
  • About Staying Single – Let me speak up for all the single 40′ somethings.  It’s not that we are necessarily opposed to marriage…just opposed to bad relationships.  It’s the whole Mr. Right and the right time.  Personally, I’m waiting for a “Stedman”…and then when he arrives, I probably won’t need to marry him.  OMG, I’m turning “Oprah-ish.”  It’s all about being married to the right person…Gayle and John agree on this. And the “contract renewal” option Gayle proposes every 5 years or so…interesting.  “You get out of things what you put in,” says John sounding just like me I think…just before he quotes School House Rock  with “like the nation, you’re working to form a more perfect union.”  Now, I won’t be able to get that song out of my head…Thanks John…
  • About “All the Single Ladies”  – An article in “The Atlantic,” Kate Bolick touches on the question “Is marriage obsolete?”  “Marriage as we know it is going out,” says Kate.  Sounds like my life a few years ago – never married, left my marriage track boyfriend, no kids…but suprisingly feeling happy and ok about life.  “The only thing made me sad was the idea that I wasn’t doing something that I was suppose to be doing…” Kate tells us, “and once I removed that idea, it was liberating.”  Joining in the discussion is Lori Gottlieb, a writer from LA, giving it a few more supporting points on topic.  I LOVE this.   Here’s the article.  Ladies, have your OWN discussion!
  • About Opera singer superstar, Anna Netrebko – From Russia and part of the “Brangelina” couple of Oprea, Anna seems so likeable…I can see why she is a superstar.  And the clip of Victorio…lovely…both for the audio and for the visual pleasure.  Thanks for sharing Gayle…I definately am vacationing in the wrong place AND with the wrong people…
  • And…Gayle’s new 3 Things to Know – Today, it’s all about Miami with Gloria Estefan.  Here we go…1.  It is home to the best Cuban food in the entire world. (This is true)2. 1.5 million acres of swamp land…(The Everglades…beautiful but swampy…) 3.  And the Guiness Book of World Record holders for the longest conga line. (Full of proud dancers)

We’ll see you tomorrow Gayle…hope I’m a little more awake and able to keep up!  You know…I started night class this week and all with Oprah’s Lifeclass…so…mornings are a little tough!
