Gayle King Show

On the Gayle King Show – Soledad O’Brien, Mark Cuban & Remembering Elizabeth Taylor

Welcome to Thursday everbody…Gayle welcomes us to the show and begins talking about how the news is all things Elizabeth Taylor…and there seems to be much to say after being in the public eye for over 60 years.  Wasn’t she only 12 when she filmed National Velvet?…how I always wanted a black horse and violet eyes… So, there’s a lot on the show today…so, let’s get to it.

About Elizabeth Taylor – “The biggest star ever???” is what the USA Today paper reads.  “I think there is no question.” People are talking….and so will be Gayle at the end of this show.  Read on….

About Westboro Baptist Church – These angry, unGodly church members who protest funerals of service men because of the country’s tolerance of Aids is now saying they are going to protest at Elizabeth Taylor’s funeral.  Gayle thinks shame on them.  I think shame on them.  They hide behind the skirt of the word “church” but there is nothing Godlike of what they do.  SHAME on them…how can these people think that this is okay?  Really, somebody needs to get them that sticker “WWJD?” because he wouldn’t be spending his energy doin’ this…

About Reporting from Libya – Newsreporter and NBC Correspondent, Richard Ingle is in Libya covering the troops…and incoming explosions come in.  Go and watch the video, Gayle tells us.  It’s amazing.  It is…

About Libya – It’s not a matter of weeks or months, it’s a matter of days.  “The exit strategy is more like this week…we will still be in a supporting environment,” President Obama said this morning.  Just remember people…he knows more than we know.

About Flying Blind into Regan – Two flights tried to communicate with Regan National airport…and there was NO answer.  “The tower is apparently unmanned.”  So unacceptable.  Gayle reports that now, they are changing the process to make sure that there are 2 controllers in the tower at night.  “Shouldn’t that have happened a long time ago?” Gayle asks.  NO kidding!  That’s disturbing that this was not already in place.

About Soledad O’Brien – “Unwelcome: the Muslims Next Door,” – a CNN special report with Soledad airing this Sunday.  Such hatred and ignorance surrounds this subject.  Soledad takes a look at the issue in Murphysboro, Tennessee and what is happening due to a local Mosque wanting to expand into an Islamic Center.  “Go home,” she reports they are told…when many are American-Muslims and where they are IS home.   Gayle plays a clip from Congressman Keith Ellison from Minnesota as he spoke about 1 American Muslim Firefighter who died trying to save people during 9/11.  He’s not just a member of an ethnic group or just a member of a religion,” he tearfully said.  Congressman Ellison joins the conversation on the phone.  “They are really no different than anyone else…and people don’t understand.”  “If more people watch your show and realize that the Muslim American’s are really no different than you….” Gayle notes…then maybe it will open some minds.  Watch Sunday…on CNN..

About Mark Cuban – Gayle tells us that she may have to break her Lent promise… because of Mark Cuban….because he’s going to make her talk about Charlie Sheen….but will she?  Mark Cuban, energetic owner of the Dallas Mavericks and now, part of NBC’s Shark Tank.  Mark reminds us; he started his own company, Micro Solutions when he was 24, after he was fired from a software company.  Then, he started Audio Net and Broadcast.com… streaming games over the internet.  Mark Cuban possibly doing a deal with Charlie Sheen…. “We are in conversations.”  Then…the question comes up, “What number would it take for YOU to feel rich?”  4 out of 10 millionaires say they do not feel rich…and they would need $7.5 million to feel rich.  “Being truly rich depends on what your expectations are.  If you are about stuff, you’re never going to have enough money,” Mark says.  Sally calls in and says, “Her definition of rich – the person who needs the least.”  Interesting conversation…  Mark says, the next big thing is personalize medicine…medicine created just for you…but it’s too early to invest yet…give it some time.  Thanks for the tip Mark!  I never really thought of you before but now…I’m putting you into the “like” column.

About Elizabeth Taylor…the greatest star – Everyone that ever met her said she lived her life to the fullest.  This is how to live!  Elton John says of her…. “We have just lost a Hollywood giant but more importantly we have lost an incredible human being.”  In the past 24 hours, a lot of people have been popping up as “friends” but Carole Bayer Sager was with her the last night of her life.  She joins Gayle by phone.

“When you went to see her that last night, did you think it may be the last time?” Gayle asks.  Carole tells us that she was actually on the way out to a different event, but after taking with another friend, Jose Eber, she said to her husband, “I think I need to go to the hospital….she’s been in the hospital for 7 weeks which they kept really quiet…and she was losing her battle…but I wanted to say goodbye,” Carole tells us.  Her entire family was there….sons, daughters…the entire night.  “Do you think that she was happy near the end of her life?”  Gayle asks.  “Not as happy as she was…,” Carole says and goes on to explain, “I think in the last 2 years in Elizabeth’s life there was a lot of inability to move around…and that’s not Elizabeth.  She had such a huge spirit and life force…so this was hard for her to be confined to a small bed.”  “Elizabeth loved life…she loved food…that was the sad thing, she didn’t eat at the end of her life…”  “How would you like us to remember her?” Gayle asks.   “She took the biggest bite of the apple of life that I have seen anyone ever take,” Carole says.  “She was as sweet and kind inside as she was beautiful outside…”

Onto the rest of the day…to take a bite out of my own Apple of Life
