This past Sunday, OWN premiered a hilarious new show called Golden Sisters.  Somewhere, someone at OWN found out about these three older women living in Los Angeles and decided it would be a little good entertainment.  Here’s the news – it’s GREAT entertainment.  I couldn’t stop laughing and smiling the entire hour.  Showcasing two half-hour episodes – or should I say escapades – cameras followed the adventures of Mary, Josie and Teresa and they did not disappoint.

Originally from New York and born back in the day of  the Great Depression and black and white films called “talkies”, these 3 sisters have found themselves living out their golden years on the West Coast of California and spending some quality sister time together in the process.  This real life “I Love Lucy meets Lucy meets Lucy” program will have you rolling on the floor laughing as you text and call every single one of your friends to tune in and join the joy. 

While some gain their fame from sex tapes, these older ladies found theirs while watching a sex tape.  As the three came together and talked over light snacks, a web camera and an internet connection, it was their video of watching Kim Kardashian’s sex tape that sent them spiraling into viral history.  And now, OWN is filling up a little of our TV time with a little sister time.

For the premier, the girls had us getting out into the online dating world and then, preparing for the end of the world with a little karate and survival skill training.  While the adventures are endless, these strong, funny and smart women open up their world of sisterhood and bring us inside the special bond that often only sister’s share.   The one that can endure anything because you’re family. 

As I watched and laughed along with the other OWN viewers on Sunday, I also had my own little aha moment.  On the screen, I was seeing my sisters and I in 30 years.  Belonging to my own gang of 3 sisters, I know the ride.  (If I had a dollar for every time I was asked, “Are you twins?” I’d be as rich as Oprah! Seriously.)  The moments of crazed grown-up childhood fighting to outrageous laughing so uncontrollably that you think you might bust a rib.  A shared experience with almost sharing a heart…a deep connection that is an amazing gift.  Sisters.  Golden Sisters.  I can’t wait for more of the same…OWN, bravo.  You have brought the gift of laughter back to the TV world with Mary, Josie and Teresa.  Watch out people.  Be prepared to laugh yourself off the sofa.
