OWN Shares a Look at Home Made Simple (video)

by paula on December 5, 2011

OWN’s Home Made Simple takes a weekend project or two and makes them life changing for a few. On each episode, HMS tries to bring great ideas, quick projects, fun snacks and lots of tips to make YOUR life simple…and your home amazing. Here are a few clips from past episodes that OWN is sharing. They give a little look at the big heart of HMS. Anything that has a reveal and has people hugging…well, it’s worth the watch! Thanks OWN for sharing!

Above: Home Made Simple: Dad Makes Up For Lost Years – After growing up in Canada, Bradley’s 23-year old daughter Rene is moving into his home. Hoping to make up for lost years, Bradley calls on Paige Davis and her experts to show him how to transform a bachelor pad guest room into a stunning sanctuary.

Above: Home Made Simple: Facing Fears and Conquering Clutter – Ariste is making that transition back into the work force but her home office is a cluttered catastrophe. Paige and the experts transform the clutter into an organized office oasis and surprise her with a patio perfect for her book club meetings.

Above: Home Made Simple: Single Mom Learning To Let Go – Stacy is a single mom with two active boys who are growing up fast…and still sharing a room. With the help of the Home Made Simple team, she’ll have to learn to organize her house to give her boys room to spread their wings.

Above: Home Made Simple: Learning Less Stuff Means More Joy – The Home Made Simple team must find a way to get three siblings with big personalities to live peacefully in one small room.

OWN and Paige Davis give us a little lesson on letting kids grown into their OWN space and taking back a little of yours with Home Made Simple and this week’s “Single Mom Learning to Let Go” episode.  Letting kid’s grow up and into their own little people is hard enough…so, giving them their own space has a lot to do with trusting yourself…  Stacey’s a single mom and wants to carve out a little space for her two boys, Richard and Zach, to call their own mini-man cave.  Having their own little hang out gives them a great place to hang with friends as well as giving mom her OWN space in the house.  Think about it…do you have somewhere in your house to dedicate to your teens and pre-teens? When I was young, it was safe to go out and play ’til dinner.  Now, wouldn’t it be nice to know where they are?  Just a thought…because everyone needs a little space sometimes to call their OWN.

Over at the HMS Project Site they keep us busy by giving us so much information to choose from.  With a little dash of projects and easy recipes, they really are trying to make our lives just a little more beautiful and simple…one project and one bite at a time.  Here are some of the highlights you’ll find there…

  • Great recipes of some spicy Jalapeno Cheddar Corn Muffins or Three Bean Chili (veggie style for me if you leave out the pork!)
  • Great garden ideas for even the smallest of spaces.  Get some ideas on making it a family garden with some memores…plus some ideas on how to use the space you have…limited or not!
  • Organizing tips and unique storage ideas!
  • Decor ideas for customized curtains and creating a reclaimed lumber wall! (Get inspired!  I’m wonder what ELSE can I use reclaimed lumber for!  I’m inspired!)
  • Get crafty with some sleep sacks…
  • and so much more!!!

OWN and Paige Davis get a little patriotic as we take a look at a family that has all given so much in this week’s Home Made Simple episode, “Military Dad’s Chance for His Family.”  Deploying on his 3rd deployment to Afghanistan, this family is deserving of some definite HMS magic.  With a little bit of remodeling for some kid’s space and some great easy-make recipes for the family, all the love that goes into the work you can definitely see.  This home is full of love…that’s for sure!

Over at the HMS Project Site there’s a bunch of great info!  Here are some of the highlights you’ll find there…

  • Great recipes with a chicken veggie bake and some creative snacks with simple puff pastry.
  • Home decor with some creative framing of all special pictures and kid’s projects and making an old piece of furniture NEW again with a furniture makeover!
  • Some painting tips!
  • Lessons for the kitchen
  • and so much more…

The chicken veggie bake alone is worth going over to the Home Made Simple site!  YUM!

OWN and Paige Davis give us a little lesson on downsizing our OWN lives with Home Made Simple and this week’s ”Learning Less Stuff Means More Joy” episode.  Finding your own space and making it work has everything to do with how you look at things.  I wonder if everyone feels like they have too much stuff?  It’s time to relook at my OWN space.  If this family can…I’m sure that I can too!

Over at the HMS Project Site there’s a bunch of great info!  Here are some of the highlights you’ll find there…

  • California Sushi Rolls (YUM! Remember…you can make sushi without the fish…just saying…)
  • A bookcase makeover that will make your head turn and you will say, “Wow!”
  • Folding screens to divide off your space
  • DIY pretty window bench
  • and so much more…

Home Made Simple – Teen Comic, Royce

by paula on November 2, 2011

Home Made Simple brings OWN a little bit of makeover magic each Sunday morning with a familiar face, Paige Davis.   With just a couple of days and lots of ideas and tips, HMS (my new accronym for “Home Made Simple”) brings some fun and totally do’able ideas to maybe take on in your own life.  Be inspired…to add a little color, to update a room, to think out of the box and to give your home a little love and attention.  Love the idea of simple since most of MY projects seem way too overwhelming.

PLUS…get ready for this…it’s not just decorating.  Add snacks and cooking with kids (from this episode)…and it makes for an easy hour of tips and tricks to add into your world.  Yes…it’s hard NOT to see Paige Davis and think “Trading Spaces” and without the dueling neighbors and the extra day or so…it kinda is like that…

It looks from the Procter & Gamble website and the previous episodes that this isn’t a new, original OWN program…but it makes sense if it’s here to inspire and make our lives a little better…or better, projects more simple.  So, HMS and Paige Davis, WELCOME to OWN!

So, take a look at the project site for the project notes and more…some of the things you will find there include:

  • Unique Lunches for Kids: Cosmic Cuisine
  • Painting Tips
  • DIY Milk Crate Stage
  • A Cool Wall Mural
  • How to make a Ping Pong ball light fixture
  • and more…
